Sweet Token & my Oldest Coin so far.
Hi All,
I Went door knocking today and got permission to hunt a few front yards in town. First decent find was the 1919s Buffalo- it's my first one that has a date on it and it's one of the lower mintage ones. Dug a bunch of trash, then hit a 50s wheat. Finished that yard and went to show the owner my finds. She looks at my finds and then points across the road and says that they own the house over there too and I'm free to hunt that yard if I want. Walked over and hit a decent penny signal at two inches. Figured it was a shallow newer penny but dug anyway. It turned out to be 4 wheats at about 4 inches stacked together. Dug a bunch of trash after that and decide to hit the boulevard before I left. I usually don't hunt boulevards because it seems like they've been hunted. I'm glad I did though because I dug a cool token that says 5c in trade for the Stockholm Concert Hall in Kalispell.
I moved on to another yard on the west side of town that used to be a brothel way back. Wasn't finding anything good and figured it was picked over. Dug a shallow penny signal and it turned out to be my oldest coin yet- 1889 IH. It was just under the surface so someone must have disturbed the dirt around the foundation at some point. Didn't find anything else good in that yard. Tried a few doors in the area but didn't get any more permission. I decided to go over to the east side where my brother and I were having luck a few days ago. Found a bigger old home and knocked on the door. A nice lady answered and gave me the go ahead. Found a couple old wheats right off the bat and had high hopes for a virgin yard with some possible silver. It wasn't to be though, most of the yard seemed to have been regraded at some point because the old stuff was only coming up in one small area.
Still got a decent haul for a few hours work. I really like the token.
Also found about $3.50 in clad and memorial cents, a little religious pendant (not gold), a no cash value token, and a couple buttons that look newer.
Wheat dates: '13d '26d '35d(2) '38d '40d(2) '51D '53s '53d (Its weird, usually I dig mostly "s" mint wheats but today it was mostly "d"s.)
Thanks for looking
Happy Hunting
