Got out for a few hours to one of the fields i have been working, it was pretty slow going the first hour and the weather looked as though it could shut me down at any moment and that when i came across the 1865 IN, love finding ones from the war years. Well not 20 feet away from that i get a good signal and out comes the US staff Officer button as you can see with the before cleaning and after pic it cleaned up very very nicely. Half hour later get a deep signal and out pops this golden square, after a little research i believe its a victorian era crescent moon and star diamond encrusted locket still has a couple stones left on it. I have not been able to get the locket open as of yet, would be cool if there was a picture inside, enjoy!!

Nice finds! I just dug a '65 IH yesterday too (see my post). Real diamonds on the locket? Good luck in opening it. How did you clean that button up so nicely?

used some ammonia on it

erik - some of the descriptions i read said diamond encrusted, and there are def a couple stones still on it

Man my eyes hurt from looking at that staff button

got the locket open, there appears to be what looks like two small tin types inside but moisture and dirt inside have destroyed the images that were on them, what a shame

Great finds! The Button cleaned up very well, Hope you get the locket open congrats...................HH

Sweet finds! I really like that locket.
