well, the large coppers have been elusive lately. it seems they've all gone on holiday to canada and have been held there against their will...
got out of work early today, so i went out to a site i've been hitting on and off this year that has produced some coppers and seateds and quite a bit of modern stuff. first signal i dug was a worn out 1859 IH penny. wandered around some fields for a couple of hours with not much to show for it, but decided to swing back by where i'd dug the indian before i left. got one of those iron falsing-type signals that i can never pass up (i'd already gotten a bunch of them, and subsequently dug up some iron), but i dug the signal anyway, and was mildly surprised to hear a high pitched tone when i stuck the probe in the hole (heh!). i was even more surprised when out popped a nice little piece of spanish silver, my first pillar of the year.
the walker came from the same area yesterday, and i almost chucked it across the field.
the other IH's came from a hunt earlier in the week where there was some excavation going on along the river. dates are '60, '65, '75, '87, '96 and one undateable.
thanks for looking, and HH,

dwayne

Boy do I ever know THAT feeling. Stupid walkers...
Like the pillar, that is one of my favorite coin types.

Love the Spanish Silver :headbang: That is at the top of my list!

Last weekend I dug a 1980 Washington Quarter from arround 6" at a very old spot. In my pouch sputtering to myself...........

Oh ok , I'll take those "stupid walkers" and dispose of them properly for you - for a nominal fee
good bottle of scotch should suffice ! Ha ! Argentium.

Nice spanish silver, I can't hardly wait until I find my first!

Those are sweet finds

Nice date indians also

1 holed Spanish still beats 20 toast large coppers!
I'd rather be the "loser" with 20 toasted coppers! ;D

Nice Job on the Fatty IH's and great job on the real

I would take that Colonial beauty in an instant. :headbang: I am due for another old Spanish silver. :dontknow: I need a copper though. :laughing7:

thanks for the love, everyone.
got back out to the site and found a nice, big tombac and an old "orange" button, and a few square nails.
all the good signs are there, but it's a really small little site, not too junky, and has modern disturbances all around it,
so i'm not confident that there's much hiding there.

on a different note, i was wondering to myself exactly how many toasted coppers would trade even for a fair-to-middling spanish silver.
i think i get about 7-8 coppers for every spanish silver. would be curious to know what other's ratios are. i've heard the virginia ratios are skewed
in the other direction. rich tobacco farmers and such. perhaps this would be a thread to start somewhere else, though...

HH,

dwayne
