Detecting has been on hold for the last year because me and my wife had our first son but I'm always keeping my eye out for treasures. When I was at the dump yesterday I popped into the swap shop to grab a couple of sand toys for my sons new sand box and noticed a plastic bag of silverware. I said what the heck, I'll bring it home and check it out and bring it back if it's all plated.
I sorted through the bag at home and half of it was made in China and half of it was sterling silver!
This oyster fork caught my wife's eye so I polished it up for her. It's dated 1877 and after a little research I found out that it's plated silver, still cool.
Ended up with a total of 14 ounces of sterling worth $200! You just never know!
