My brother has a sutlers token from the civil war that he needs some help with. It is a 5 cent one from the 1st Virginia Cavalry. It has the sutlers name across the top but he can only make out three letters and they are Jno. There is a spread wing eagle on one side and the information posted above is on the other side. It is about the size of a dime. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures available at this time. He found the token around Gettysburg many years ago. He now lives in Kentucky but has no access to a computer or any other way to send me a picture.

The first token in the link that huntsman53 provided looks like a match except for the JNO lettering. Is it possible that the JNO is actually L. GO? If so, you have a match and, if yours is the real deal, it is valuable. This site has a price of $2,450 on a similar token. That only means anything if someone is willing to pay that price, but nonetheless, it is worth a lot. As far as I can tell, the only sutler associated with the First Virginia Cavalry was Lazarus Goldheim and his tokens were stamped L. GOLDHEIM.

He doesn't need to go to the library. Go to a local store, or any place where people gather that he goes regularly. Almost everyone has a smartphone these days. He has to know someone with a smartphone. Someone at the grocery store, or starbucks, or something.

Have him ask someone to take a pair of pictures of the token and email them to you. DO NOT text/mms them to you. When pictures are sent via text/mms they are compressed and made significantly smaller. Send them through email so the pictures maintain their integrity.

The town he lives near doesn't even have a McDonalds! I am not even sure it has a public library. But, maybe he knows someone with a smart phone. I'll call him back tomorrow evening (if I remember!).

I'm still looking forward too seeing that sutler token!

Me too! Looks like I will have to make the 10 hour drive to take a picture of it myself. My brother has some real nice relics that he found while living in Maryland many years ago. He is just not hooked up to today's technology. I will call him tomorrow to see what is going on.

Why would you "scroll down a long way" to find Virginia and not do a search in the page and be taken directly to it?
