Not sure IF I posted this in the past.

It was found at the Grove I was at yesterday
but Several years ago. at about 3 to 4 inches
IF I remember right. The Grove dates to the early 1800's

front Reads

SUSQUEHANNA UNIVERSITY
SELINS GROVE PENNA

(yes it has Selins Grove as 2 words)

Back Says

STERLING

& Shows a GLOBE in the Middle

the Brown part has 3 stars

Dime for Size comparison.

Can Anyone Give a good Estimate of Age ?

Perhaps an alumni pen? You get a similar pen if you join the Alum Association at my alma mater. No idea how old it might be. Monty

Not Sure If you Mispelled or Meant "Pen" ?

It is Definately a Pin on back.
I don't want to try & open it,
As it's either Carroded or Packed with
Dirt, which may cause the release lever to Break.

I'm guessing it's Definately Alumni Related though.

Emails have been sent.
Hopefully they'll look in.

it looks to have been re-soldered on, since it looks like there is a great deal of solder on it - more than would be used originally.

The original clasp may have come off and replaced, or the same one could have been resoldered on.

No Solder B

Just Poor Pics. & a little Dirt Present yet.

Clasp may actually be open, But as I said,
I'm in fear of moving anything.
I'v broken too many Cool Relics in the past.

Yes I would think that Lifts up to close & you can see a
What looks like the Pin inside that slash. But it is Coroded or Very dirty.
I sort of think the pin itself isn't Sterling it almost looks rusted.

The back hardware, the enamel and the style says to me that this would be from the 1930s or 40's. Considering the style (stamped out with the small enamel section) it is not the type of college pin from the victorian era (they loved more enamel, stones, pearls and usually in gold)
It is certainly a lapel pin, due to its size.
my two cents.

(have you tried cleaning it??? I would suggest a light bath with white vineagar)

I just Soaked it in Jewelry Cleaner I got From My Sister
& used a Tooth Brush on it. & then Sprayed it with WD40

As I said the Actual Pin appears to have Rusted & I fear
trying to Pull up on it.

Thing is so Tiny, I just know it would Snap :(

Info I received From Cindy Whitmoyer Of the University.

Hi Jeff,

The information that Mary Sanders, Archive Assistant, uncovered is below. Should you require additional info, we'll try our best to accomodate you. Thank you.

Best regards,
Cindy

The Missionary Institute name was changed to Susquehanna University in 1894.

Selinsgrove was named Selins Grove from 1787 until August of 1894.

So, my guess would be around 1894.

I’m not sure what the globe & 3 stars stand for.
