I got an email from ebay that they canceled the bid for my item. I knew he something was wrong when he would not pick up item. He paid me and has not contacted me since he wanted me to ship it. Ebay told me not to contact him and if he wants a refund don't give one until I contact ebay first. Sounds fishy to me. His one email was very hard to make out because of the broken English. Has this happened to anyone else?

If you make a listing with pick up only do not accept payment through Paypal. Accept cash only when the item is picked up. If the item is picked up you have no proof of delivery (tracking) and the buyer can file a claim as item not received. You are then out the item and the money received will likely be returned by Ebay out of your Paypal account to the buyer.

I think I would contact Ebay now and find out what is going on.

They also said he is not registered on ebay. And after reading email and looking at bids he had 0 feedback.

I bet he was going to pull the "I'll send you a cashier's check for the full amount plus 2X the shipping cost" scam.

In this scam, the buyer urges you to ship the item, and as soon as they have shipping confirmation (or that the shipper received the item), they issue a fake check. You take the fake check to the bank and deposit it. The item leaves the shipping dock, and five days later, the bank realizes that it was a counterfeit check, and has pulled the money back out of your account. The bank will often close your account if it is NSF.

There are numerous versions to this scam, but they still have your item and you are in a battle for solvency with the bank!

When you insist on USPS money orders or cash, you are helping save yourself from this scam.

What happened was Ebay gave him the boot for some reason, and when that happens it automatically cancels the users bids, and triggers those emails from ebay. I have never seen someone get kicked off without a valid reason, but have on occasion seen ebay wipe out transactions after the sale for no good reason... because it happened to me as a buyer. And in that case the seller had my money, but did go ahead and ship. The bottom line here is if it's some type or fraud, ebay/Paypal should have frozen the funds and acted, but if that didn't happen, and you have the guys money, and he's not a scammer, you can be sure he's going to be trying to get it back, and probably not be very happy. So you should make the phone calls or whatever you feel you have to do because those messages you received as I said are just computer generated generic emails and never have the specifics for any one case.

I bought a new motor for my snow plow once and after I paid eBay contacted me and said to not pay. The seller still shipped the item and I had no problems. The seller however was banned from eBay. I have no idea why...

sent from a potato...

O yea..most likely Ebay smelled what dude was up to and cancelled the sale, etc..happened to me once-was ready to ship a motorcycle radiator to P. R. and ebay stepped in, pulled the funds and cancelled the sale. They sent me a message saying that the sale met all criteria for being fraudulent, and after looking at it, and the buyer, yes-most likely a scam. Kudos to them for being on their toes. ddf

I called ebay and she recommended refunding the money. I did give him a refund and blocked him. I asked why he is no longer on ebay and she couldn't tell me for that particular person. But she did say its usually fraud, not paying or something like that.

Probably used someone else s credit card or banking information. Ebay would never say don't refund him the money unless something was not kosher.
