How about a suspender clip from an old knap sack strap?
Could also be from a set of chest waders.
Just a wild guess.

Where are all of the ideas?I agree it is a little big to be used for suspenders but it was the first thing that came to mind.I'm convinced it's something else but what?

I think it's too big and weird to be a suspender clip - but, have NO ideas about what it could be...

One thing comes to mind but it may not even be close. The church I grew up in had huge curtains/draperies that could close off sections of the santuary and Sunday school rooms. These hung from channels that had objects like that one running in them. The curtains had marbles sewn into the hems. To remove or replace them the marble & material was pushed into the hanger and the shape pinched the marble in and held them in place.

Dang it Gypsy,I think your right. . I think it must be a horse related item.I'm still trying to find out what it is,plenty of horse farms around here.
