Suspender Clasp? Cloak Clasp?

Found this yesterday and trying to figure out what it may have been. Looks like it’s brass and has what looks like tiny grasping type pins on one side of both sections. Sorry for the pre cleaned pics, haven’t had a chance to clean it up.

I would guess some kind of horse tac, but I’m always wrong, someone will ID it for you. Very cool, whatever it is

To more accurately identify what you've found, we would really need to see a pic of both sides after a good washing.

It is a book clasp. Hard to determine age. Possibly 18th C.

I’ll try to clean it up more soon. I farm, so busy time of year. I’ve found civil war buttons as well as 19th maybe 18th century artifacts there in the past. This old well is nearby too.
