Hello All,

Vp here, was detecting solo today at a site i've hit many, many times in the past. It's a farm that dates back into the late 1700's 's and has a nice 1850's brick farm house on the land. Now over the last year, i've found some nice coins at this place, but the last 7 or 8 times i've hit it, i've come away empty handed so today i wasn't really expecting much.

I was hitting the front yard near the highway when i came across one of those "too perfect" signals. You know the ones ... they sound perfect but usually turn out to be something stupid made of aluminum. well i dug it and pulled out an Eisenhower dollar ! now i don't usually post clad, but this was my first dollar coin so i had to put it up. (and yeah i decked her good with my lesche)

so after another hour, i was about ready to give up when i decided what the heck, why not try right by the house where the weeds had grown up (the house is no longer occupied) the cold weather the last month had killed most of them off - i was detecting there for maybe a minute when i got another "perfect" signal - this time i dug carefully and out popped this large cent from about an inch down - couldn't believe it ! can't see a date but can clearly see the wreath and "one cent" on the back.
i detected another hour around the house with nothing else to show

coppa's seem to be flying into my pocket lately - that's 5 now in the last 5 weeks !

take care and thanks for looking

At this rate V you might want to ask Kirk for one of the Coppa Bag's he's holding....Congrat's on the Ike too...HH!!

That's when the best coins pop out brother...when you least expect them to...and from a pounded place :)

Kevin,

Well, you better get used to the coppas because we don't find much wilver, unless it is Spanish or Capped. ;) :D It isn't really the condition of the coin that counts though, Kevin. It is the history and the thought, "I wonder who held this coin last?" I usually take it like this: we live in PA, so why not take advantage of our history? Anyone around the country, such as Idaho, Montana, South Dakota, etc. can find wilver, but not Colonials. :D You should check those Colonials out you found last week...try to get a feature, man! They aren't doing any good sitting around in a baggie being neglected. ;) :D Heck, even if you can't see anything, think about the history that you are holding...it truly is special to hold something that is over 200 years old compared to some common wilver coin that was dropped only 50 years ago. ;) Kyle and I would take 100 Colonial slugs over 100 Merc dimes. That is just our style! ;) :D

Most of our coppas come out like the one you found today. My GW was verrrry rare to come out that great.

We won't be detecting this weekend probably. The snow won't melt for awhile now, plus the temps are going to get too low.

BDD...Kirk

Nice find, Kevin!!! Congrats! Looks like you are on a Coppa roll! ;)

If you want to find wilver, hop on the next plane to S. CA. I'll show you some. ;D

that's a good way to think about it, thanks
we are lucky enough to have all of this history in our backyards

someone mentioned in a post last week that "cornfield" coppas might be in worse shape because of all the checmicals etc, used on the field - where coppas found in the woods or grass seem to be in better shape - do you think that's true ?

Yes, farmfields do tend to hurt the coppas a little, but in all reality, are we ever going to sell our coins? :D As long as I can make one feature out on the coin, I am super happy. Once again, the thrill of seeing that green disc in the ground is awesome! Don't worry, Kevin, you will find some coppas this year that will look really good when you pull them from the soil. ;) I can bet the farm on that! We will all find some awesome coppas this year. :)

Yes, grass areas and wooded areas treat the coppas better. Kyle's Connecticut copper on the BDD website was found in a grass field. Kyle has some grass areas and woods to hit for the summer, so we may all get a nice-looking coppa. ;) :D

cool ...

i think our ratio is off though, it should be for every 10 copper coins, we need one piece of spanish wilver ! i could definately live with that - with the quality of the sites we're hitting (and the coins we've already found) you would think there should be SOME spanish wilver around !!!!

we can always hit the defunct amusement park in the woods again this weekend :) :) :) :) :) :) i KNOW there's still OLD silver there kirk !

kevin

pretty sweet! i havent dug a large cent since this past summer, :'( i know an old coppa is hiding out there somewhere! i`ll bet there is some more good stuff in that yard! ;)
