today i was detecting an old once existed gold town. i found a button which would date bout 1850 - 1860. the button was round with the words written superior on it with a bird next to it.

has anyone got any information on these buttons??

im from australia

site was a mix of chinese and english prospectors

Well, it sounds like a decent dig but, without pictures of the front and back of the button it is really difficult for us to to help you ID it. If you need help posting pictures I can help you. Just PM me and I will walk you through it. Welcome to T-net...mike

never saw this, I guess you were one step ahead. Still would like to know its construction? Is it made of 1 piece of metal & flat or 2 pieces?

Great ID 4-H presuming it isn't a button. If it is a button (with a shank or evidence of a shank) there's a slim possibly it might be a Steele and Johnson from an earlier period which showed the bird.

nope nothing like that one. It is a button... it has four holes in the centre. Its not flat... its concaved and one side has superior with the opposite a small bird. ill attempt to get pics up in the following week. It might be hard to see though. Its the size of a penny or slightly smaller
