You should clean that up a little better.

My first inclination is that is not a button face but some sort of decorative medallion that was attached to the surface of something. With a cleaned up picture someone may be able to at least give you a timeline of it's design.

I could be wrong, (Once I thought I was wrong but I was mistaken :laughing7:) but it appears to be tarnishing much like silver does so I wonder if it might be silver in metal content?
