I live in a part of South Carolina where there was almost zero civil war activity, so I've always tried to find colonial era home sites for relic hunting. I recently found out about a home site that was supposedly built in the mid 1800s. At some point, the house burned and a tenant house was built in its place and was used until the 1980s. The area around the tenant house is almost impossible to hint because of the trash, so I moved out further. Yesterday and today I was able to pull these out. The SC button looked like it has a Kendrick backmark. Does this put it in the civil war era? Also how about the eagle button? It's my first SC button, so I'm totally jacked!

Kendrick & Company pre-dates the Civil War I am pretty sure.

That's a nice bunch of quality relics!

Congrats! Looks awesome!

Wow...... looks like a bit earlier than CW to me, but maybe some of the real experts will let us know. Congrats.:icon_thumleft:

I don't know much about buttons but this site is producing a wide time period of items. Does the eagle button look CW period?

You've made some significant finds there! Congrats and thank you for showing us.

Congrats on the great looking buttons.

Very nice.Congrats.HH.

Nice finds, congrats!

Dang! Congrats on super finds!

Nice button. The Anchor cuff link is circa 1800 give or take a few years!

oooooooohhhhh....I'm excited for you. That's an early site and a great bunch of finds to start. I bet we're going to "see" you find some early coins there if you hunt it carefully......

Those are some sweet old 1800's button for sure. Great job! :occasion18:

A few years ago, one of TN's 'resident gurus', "PBK" responded in this way when another Kendrick button was presented; first, without a pic then later he responded after seeing the pic. Here was his response; I hope it helps you:

"Must be Kendrick & Co. of Waterbury, CT, c. 1830's— usually thought to be the same firm as Ives, Kendrick & Co.
There are a couple of Kendrick & Co. Superfine backmarks.
UPDATE: (PBK's)
Now that you've posted pics, it's clear that the mark is actually " * L & KENDRICK * SUPERFINE"— the mark of Leavenworth & Kendrick, c. 1829-42, the firm of Mark Leavenworth, his son Benjamin Franklin Leavenworth, and son-in-law Green Kendrick.

Don.......

I live in SC too. There's none where I am (spartanburg). But the other day I found a minié ball hahaha. Sure was a nice surprise. I usually travel over 3 hours just to dig CW stuff. Sweet SC button

The navy cufflink is also a very nice find. Cufflinks in general don't show up too often.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll be hitting this site hard and hopefully have some other things to show.

Awesome buttons, I always like finding those. HH.
