Well the weather was awful today, winds of 49mph and showers! So out we went! 😎

Tried a new field today, it’s a beautiful grass field that has the old carriage way from Croxton Park to the castle running thru it. It also has a stream running along the bottom. I found a few coins and a button, but by lunch time himself had found nothing and was tripping over his bottom lip, so we relocated to a ploughed field where we both found a few more bits!

Not sure about this first item, I know it looks like a watch winder, but it’s quite chunky, then a button, thimble and thimble top, broken buckle, more buttons, 4 pre dec, 1 toasted, 1908, 1918 and a George 3rd. Then my 1881 three pence. I dug the 1908 coin, filled in the hole, scanned it to make sure I hadn’t missed anything… got another signal, and there was my Silver 🥰… ! xx

Hi blossom, I think that your item in the second pic is a manufacturers mount rather than a button. Benjamin Barth of Cockspur st Charing Cross was a maker of canes, umbrellas, fishing rods etc (including to queen Victoria) and i think your item would have been attached to the end of one of these.

Your a legend… was googling nd not finding button maker 😂 this would be why!!! Thank you xx 🤗

Great finds - well worth getting rained on for sure !
 

Very attractive countryside for the MDer! Pretty, low vegetation and the hint of ancient use seeing the contours.
