about the size of a quarter, fancy flower design, wondering if it was some kind of symbol or just decoration? and age of it? it goes along with all these other faceless buttons

could some have a design that im missing, most are blank looking.

Looks like a late 19th century civilian decoration button. If you notice my photo you can see that big button on top with a Rooster and grapes on it that I dug a few weeks ago, I think it may be similar button too that because these buttons break easy.

most other stuff found has been the 1700-1770 range its strange that a 19 century would be in there.

I noticed that from your other buttons that you are finding from the 18th century.. But later activity did occur and it is not unusual too find 19th century relics in a 18th century spot.. It may be a broken 18th century "dandy" button but the shank on it looks a-little oddly and is got the same shank as the button I have in my photo and I do know these buttons break like this compared too a copper button (copper buttons they are very hard too break like that) So good luck with it, CannonBallGuy may be able too help shed more info on this. Can you tell what the button/decoration is made out of and size?

If there is away you could find out what the button is made out of that would help! I can't really tell what type of shank that is on the back of the button with all the dirt mixed in there (it now looks like it could have been a normal looking shank?) ! Depending on what it is made out of can help determine if it is a button like that in the photo that can date back pretty far back but I do not think these kind of buttons in the photo had a shank like the one you have.. But it is def a mix between a late 19th century buttons like i posted up above or a early early 18th C button but finding out what it is made out of would def. pin it down and help out because from photos without details it is still tough.

Looks like an integral shank cast pewter, ca 18th C. Highly decorated ones like yours are rather scarce.
you can see a few of similar design on the UKFD

HutSiteDigger, I see some nice pieces in your photos,
the lead geometric floral at bottom center is an oldie :)

HutDigger, this is NOT a 19th c. button, but clearly an 18th c. pewter button!

It's a beautiful design whatever it is, I live near Lancaster Pa and the design reminds me Hex signs I have seen there. However I am not sure how long they have used the Hex signs they use now. Dutch or German Hex signs
