Went shopping today (I mean it is still July) for a new pair of swim trunks, but to my surprise the only trunks left were those super sized jumbo trunks, and very few of those. Went to several stores and the answer was always the same, "We just don't get any more in after the July Holidays." In my neck of the woods we still have two full months of good swimming whether, with August often being the hottest month of year, so where's the swim trunks? I suppose come August 1st they'll be putting out x-mas trees, sidewalk ice, and snow shovels. :icon_scratch:

Scoop, I'm here to help... buy one of those super sized trunks and grow into it. :icon_thumleft: It's always been the case in retail, you sell product one season before it's needed. I never fully understood that concept, but it's been that way since I can remember. If you want to find clothes for the current season, you just have to be lucky. By the way, the Fall Sale's will be over soon too :laughing7:

Not even a thong?

Oh, sure, like I was secretly eyeing those type things as I was making my way to the men's clothing through the ladies department. (God they have a lot of panties and bras to choose from!) :laughing7:

Probably inside a pair of socks around the front :laughing7:

bigscoop,

I live and Florida and its always hilarious when they put out their Fall clothing in September. Wool sweaters, heavy pants, etc.

In September, our average temperature is something like 90 degrees! :laughing9:

I don't get it, do they just settle on a national marketing plan and simply disregard the regional differences? On the other hand, I lived in Fort Wayne for a long time, it had three huge Meijer stores, they had everything. A while back they put one in Marion and it has nothing, maybe half what the Fort Wayne stores had, so why bother? The parking lot of that Marion store is seldom more then 1/4 full. Gee, wonder why? I just don't understand the logic behind these retail mysteries. :icon_scratch:

I could've gone the rest of my life without seeing that.

Go to http://www.landsend.com and order online! Mine shipped yesterday.

I finally found some at Elder Berman, in the mall, the one place I was hoping to avoid. It was probably my sixth stop. God I hate going to the mall!

I have the answer to your "no shorts in summer" problem. I have been telling people this for a long time. We're not getting smarter like we think with all the technological advances and our studies of ourselves etc etc..... we are getting more and more stupid by the day, just look at my grammer. I used to be a reporter :dontknow: . I mean it's our own fault, we're letting the government, hollywood, and big industry guide/manipulate/brainwash us into thinking for example that I'm gonna need some christmas lights and stockings 2 weeks before halloween. I can't think of the name of the movie, but has anyone ever seen that movie that came out a few years ago where the population in the future had evolved into super idiots. Maybe people like me and folks who notice that there are no shorts for sale in summer can save the world....well I can't right now though I have to watch Campus PD and eat and snowballs w/yoohoos.

Actually there is a valid reason why items are sold ahead of season. If simply done any other way it would be a logistics nightmare. There are two sides to this dilemma, the 1st is manufacturing and the 2nd is distribution.

manufacturing side: A PO (purchase order) is placed to a manufacturer overseas with quantity, style, color and size. MFG must purchase piece goods to cover the order and receive even before manufacturing begins. Product is made, product goes through quality control, packaged and then sent for shipping. This freight may, or may not be consolidated on the origin end depending on size of shipment and final destination. Once shipped you have about a month before product arrives. Upon arrival, product is moved to DC (Distribution Center). Product is broken down and orders prepared for individual stores and shipped. Once received, product is stored until sale time and then placed for retail.
Stores only buy a limited amount of goods, so as not to have left over inventory which is costly in re-handling alone, and possible loss of revenue from non sales. No store wants to be a warehouse, they need product to move quickly. It's the store buyers that are projecting the sales and if their number is off... Well, you have to shop elsewhere.

Pretty simple, huh :laughing7:

Whew, that was a lot to say..... But now you is be learned about bizness :laughing9:

A woman who hates shopping, loves metal detecting, understands why a man needs a good dog, and likes grilled food. If she likes water, camping, and road trips I'm going to steal her! :laughing7:
