I got permission to md an old property. I'd drive past this old house and barn every once in awhile. Well after I was given permission I went to check it out only to find there's a path to pull in but everything is severely overgrown! Even when pulling in I couldn't go far because branches were scratching my suv. I'd appreciate any suggestions on md the site safely, I'm not even sure where to get started. I'm heading out there in a little bit, I'll post pictures of the area then.

Wait until early spring or in the fall arfter the first hard frost.. That's what I end up doing here in Pennsylvania when an area is way overgrown..

The view when I pull in. You can see the roof to the house top left.

View from the road. You can barely see the barn and house.

Thanks for the help! I'll wait.

Watch out for things that slither!!!

Exactly! I climbed in about two yards and turned back the first day. There's a lot of growth over fallen branches. I'm hoping once I can get to the house and barn I'll be able to detect without all of the mess but don't know yet.

Will the owner let you bring in a weed whacker?

I doubt he'd care. He suggested I bring a machete but I laughed it off.

I would hire a tractor with a brush hog

That's what the owner has been looking for- someone to come in and bushhog his property so they can go MD'ing. Win, Win- his property looks much better and you get to keep everything you find, or if its' a 50/50 split on your finds then he supplies the tractor, bushhog and fuel and you volunteer the operating time- still a good deal but have something in writing if you think there is a chance of finding something REALLY good.

Doesn't Minelab make a detector with a coil that cuts the weeds and brush as you swing it and also emits an infra-sound that repels snakes, mosquitoes, and plague infested squirrels that costs about 9000 dollars?

If you can, get to the barn and search the inside if it has a dirt floor.
The ground doesn't freeze solid inside buildings in the winter making it a good spot to bury a cache.

I have a place I plan to detect but it too is over grown. I plan to wait until Fall.
I might have to bring a weed wacker as well.

I know people in some areas who would think that was a bargain!
