Suggestion for What Is It Forum

I thought that it might be a good idea if after an item has been identified,the person who started the thread could go back to the Subject line and Name the item. It would then make it alot easier down the road for the rest of us when we are trying to identify our own finds.
We have quite a few "What is It ?" subjects started, that the identity is within the following posts....and to search through them is murder.....If you know the name ...change to Confederate Civil War Button or whatever it is ..... I realize alot of the original posters are no longer here....so I don't know how we would change those..maybe a moderator could change those ...

Good idea! And what about a post being automaticaly archived after no activity at the end of 90 days or whatever is expedient? I occasionally find myself responding to a post that is so old the original poster is no longer on the board. I was a moderator on a gun forum that did that and it saved a lot of space or so I was told. I don't know how everything works but it seems that if a lot of "dead" posts were archived it would help things along. It would also make it easier to find a specific post one is looking for. Does that compute? Monty

Unsolved posts is one of my favorite topics but darn if I can solve most of them! I have been back over those topics several times and I'm still stumped. Don't know what good I could do. You are right about the title of a post. If it gives a hint as to what the item is, or looks like, it is easy to find, even if archived. Just "what is it" may come up with any number of hits. GREAT ideas Gypsy and DiamondJim...I fully support the combination of them! I'll do my part by using an item description as the title of any future "Whatzit" posts I make and then - once identified - amend the title to include the identification.
