After seeing a lot of the questions on these forums, I would like to suggest some books that might help people to understand the physics behind detection of buried objects.

by John Milsom
$42 on amazon

An Introduction to Applied and Environmental Geophysics - a more thorough coverage of the subject than Milsom's book, but still not a lot of math
by John M. Reynolds

$139 from the Society of Exploration Geophysicists

Seeing Beneath the Soil - good overview with no math
by Anthony Clark
$57 from amazon

Revealing the Buried Past: Geophysics for Archaeologists - authors are members of the Time Team on BBC television, they do archaeological geophysics quick and on the cheap, good overview with no math
by John Gater, C. F. Gaffney
$28 from amazon

Ground-Penetrating Radar for Archaeology - very good overview with some case studies and no math

Hey there 99th,

Just wondering if you've read this easy reading favorite of mine? No math! ;D It's called the Detector Owners Field Manual and was written by Roy Lagal back originally in 1976 with seven reprints that ended in '83 which is when I bought my copy. He covers almost all there is to know, in an informative yet concise manner about different types (BFO,PI,TR,Rf,VLF/TR) of detectors and a few others I'd never heard of. ::) There is also quite a bit of info on the many phases of TH'ing.

Really a great book to have in your library...

later,
