I rarely find fire agates with the darker than rootbeer layers that have the brightest eye popping gem quality fire and I found one but after I got the druzy quartz crystal clusters off I noticed a crack running through the whole stone :sadsmiley:... Hot pink fire in there to smh 20190717_091438~2.jpg20190717_095642~2.jpg

Such a bummer, I got it out of this big cluster/vug, this is the bottom half, it's a pretty cool specimen.

I might just set it aside for now, those colors are really eye popping in that dark layer, if you zoom in on the first pic, a little of the topside of the botryoidal dark layer is showing a really awesome super bright hot pink color of fire, it might be worth seeing if I can stabilize the stone, idk I'll see how next winter goes out there, depending if I find anything gem quality or not ya know.

It's hard to see what your are digging up out there, not easy to get a lot of water back to my spot so I usually just load up on any material with quartz crystals or if I can see any dark colors but there's a lot of dried clay and dirt stuck to everything you dig up so I mostly dont know what I have till I can pressure wash everything when I get home with it, this was one that I saw crystals only, when I washed it it was a chunk/clusters/vug, I used a small chisel to bust this one open, that chunk is just a specimen, I wont touch it but maybe give it the wet look.
I do use a dremel and attachment when I'm carving.

You've got great rock hunting in AZ. Better in winter, I'm sure. My rock hunting has been curtailed this year by all the rain. The rocky lakeshore I hunt for glacial till materials is under 15' of water. There's always next year. Gary
