Got a CWR of halves today at a bank I've never been to before. Opened the roll, and immediately noticed that one of the coins was a little too small to be a half. After closer examination, I saw it was an Italian Lira coin. Dang! I've gotten those before, and they've always been either aluminum or nickel. I put it aside, and looked through the rest of the halves. One '68, so at least I got some silver.

Went back to look at the Lira again, and noticed it didn't have a date. Strange...

I typed the words I could read into Google, and found:

500 Lire - Italy - Numista

83.5% silver! :hello2: Man, sometimes you just never know!

Nice silver find!
I've never seen one before.
That's for sure, you do never know what might be hiding in them rolls.

Nice! I don't have any of those, but all 500 lire from Italy, the Vatican (I have two of those), and San Marino will be silver, unless it is bimetallic.

I think finding odd and interesting foreign coins is one of the coolest parts of crh! The other day I found tgis Mexican coin with the Mayan calendar on the back. one of my favorite coins!

Sweet!. I have one in my personal collection but not from CRH. thanks for sharing.

The title says it all...good find for a good CRHer! I'd personally take one of those over a 1964.

I believe the date is on the edge of the coin like the presidential dollars, what year is it, can you tell?

Awesome find! I have some of the newer Italian silvers, but none that old. Good stuff.
