Hey everyone. I hope your day is going well. Just wanted to pop on and post a few pics of an absolutely stunning piece from the little 45 minute walk I took this morning. The fusion crust caught my eye from 20 feet away. It's very pretty. IMAG0005.jpgIMAG0001.jpgIMAG0002.jpgIMAG0003.jpgIMAG0004.jpg

Thanks! This area is incredible. Glorieta is a pallasite strewn field, correct? I would love to go check that place out one day. Here's two from yesterday. One is a small, oriented piece, the other appears to be completely silicated, possibly a tektite? Kind of resembles NWA 7325 but I'm not that big of a dreamer lol.IMG_20170505_072355.jpgIMG_20170505_072430.jpgIMG_20170505_072510.jpgIMG_20170505_072523.jpgIMG_20170505_072514.jpgIMG_20170505_072534.jpgIMG_20170505_072532.jpg

Looks like a lot of silicate somethings in your finds.
Yes Glorieta has pallasites. I've been there about six times. South of I25 is fairly flat or flatter.
North is in the Southern end of the Rocky Mountains. Very rugged. Nice part though is it's also very open.
Some is owned but most not. The early 1950's finds had lat/long given for a start point along where the first known in1884 in Canoncito.
A line can be drawn between these two points so the born optimist can find some.
There were Glorieta hunters selling on the web but last I looked they pulled their sites. Probably the scare that the Feds might confiscate.

Thanks for all the info! I'm hunting private land with permission, so I don't worry about feds, lol. As for silicate pieces, I do find LOTS. Here is one I found about two months ago. I wasn't going to post it, but I guess I will. It's the same material, but oriented and textured differently. It is broken on one face, exposing an off-white interior with a yellow green tint. In one corner, there is small, brown, granular clast. On the bottom of the piece, there are other smaller windows that expose a similar textured interior that is slightly darker, and displays a bit of brownish coloring. It's a very beautiful piece, especially under the right light.IMAG0242.jpgIMAG0241.jpgIMAG0243.jpgIMAG0244.jpgIMAG0246.jpgIMAG0247.jpg

I haven't gotten that far yet, to be honest. I'm not only a huge procrastinator, but I'm also a gambler. In other words, if I have the cash to send pieces in for analysis, I end up putting it off until I go donate my money to people who are already beyond rich.... Casino owners. Stupid, I know. I'll make it a point to get at least a couple of groups of pieces sent out in the next two weeks when I get paid again, and I'll be sure to let you know

Hi, I am an avid meteorite hunter. Your pictures do not look like a pallasite, compare them to online pictures of Glorietta pallasite. Also do they stick to a magnet like an iron?? Don't want to be Debbie downer, but the pictures do not look like meteorites.Sterley_L_Garvie.jpg

I never said my pieces look like pallasite. Hvacker mentioned Glorieta, which is a pallasite strewn field. I also have many pieces that attract a magnet.

They doesn't look like a stony meteorites. Surface should black (if they are fresh) or dark brown if they spent some time on Earth. Inside, fresh are bright. Old are almost the same like on outside (dark brown), no blisters. Make small polished window and show it. You can check a density of them.

Well, for certain the rocks shown in comment #3 are not meteorites. Sounds a bit like you're winging it, without much knowledge or experience with actual meteorites....

Thanks for the heads up! I live about 2 miles from a sight. Perhaps I can pm you for some advice?
