It is most certainly not a button. It is probably post-CW--and either horse or farm implement/tool related.

Right! my thoughts exactly,mine is perfectly flat as if it fell/came off by itself. The others posted appear to be pryed/picked off.Funny though the back show NO signs of adhesion.NO wear marks as if pressed into something. :dontknow: I do agree with buckle boy in that its post CW era. Just weird. I'd love to see an answer to this one though.

Drawer pull....
Haven't look through the thousands online but enough to think that's probably what it is. Maybe the E was the furniture makers mark or hardware makers mark...but look at some of em online.

It would be the decorative piece of the pull, pressed onto the pull and probably fell off.
