Aurora, NC is known for the digs from their phosphate mines. They have a nice museum in the middle of town with a great historical, panoramic relief on the wall depicting the rise and fall of the ocean level from as far inland as Richmond to as far out to sea as about 30 miles. Sharks teeth have been dug up as far as Richmond, and Indian artifacts have been found far out off-shore. It used to be called normal rise and fall due to the ice ages. Today we call it global warming. I think it's a bit of both. Anyway, their museum has great teeth that have been found in the phosphate mines. This upcoming weekend, they are celebrating the holiday weekend by trucking in loads of material from the mines that they let folks go in and sift for sharks teeth, fossils, etc. My wife and I are taking our tools and joining the dig.

I think you are correct. After considering how it sparked when I split the rock, and the smell that came off it when it was split and sparked, I have to believe it is definitely a form of magnesium. It is interesting how the module formed in the middle of the stone. Thanks!
