Hunted for a while with my buddy Dave today. We returned to a field where I found a colonial era shoe buckle a month or two ago. I was thinking there had to be more there but that was the only thing any of the three of us found that day. We went back today and randomly wandered the field looking for an iron patch of some sort. After an hour or so Dave called to me from about 150 yards away but I couldn't hear him from where I was so I made my way toward him. He showed me a nice dandy button when I finally made it over there. We both started to check that area and sure enough there was a lot of iron chirp there in my headphones. We hunted it for about another hour. After a few square nails I came across a signal that was pretty good but not exactly repeatable. The best numbers I vould get from it on my E-Trac were 18-44. Dug down about 6 inches and popped a nice round object out of the hole. Took a few pics of it with my camera in the field but realized at the end of the day that I never put my SD card back in my camera after my last hunt. :BangHead: So I had to settle on a few pics of the finds after I got home. That one turned out to be a dateless matron head LC. About 5 feet away I got a signal that was even worse. I think the only reason I dug it was because of the proximity of it to the other copper signal. It was actually giving me a 1-32 signal but there seemed to be a high tone in there so I dug it fully expecting to find a square nail or other piece of iron. Turned out to be a copper though with a bunch of iron in the hole with it. This one turned out to be a classic head LC with a date of 1814. The indian heads and the rein guide were found on a previous hunt. They are 1905 and 1883.

Nice. Always a good hunt when you find some large cents. I always get excited when I come across their strong signals, thinking it might be a real early quarter.

Nice old coppers.

Great finds and post. Thanks for the photos

Nice large cents, still looking for my first.

Love those LC's and IHP. Congrats on pulling those keepers.

Always nice when a site finally gives up a keeper or two.

man I love hunts that produce Large cents!, my best ever in 1 day was 5, it was at colonial homesite my son and I found in a cornfield.

id go back to that spot time and time again, dig it all, theres gotta be more! congrats!

Well done. Two LCs would put a smile on my face. Best of luck to you!

EVO NICE COIN AND REIN GUIDE.

Beauty LC's. That classic head came out pretty good, believe it or not, since the copper they used on those planchets (1808-1814)was pretty awful. The couple in that date range I've found were completely roached.
Nice score!

Thanks for the replies. This is actually the first classic head LC I've found. I did find a classic head half cent once. The Matron heads seem much more common. I left a little bit of the verdigris on the coin because I like the way it highlights the word Liberty in the headband.

Love those old coppas

Sweet Finds
Still hunting my 1 st LC ....Well there is the one I found 2 years ago that was ground down into a saucer shape & has 3 maybe 4 small holes through the Middle making it a Good Size Button .
When held at the Correct angle , you can barely make out the Braided Hair .
Nice IH's as well.

I thought I was the only one who used the term "Roached" -Scrappy

Congratulations on your beautiful finds, the photo with rein guide helped me. I found a rein guide on the main overland trail into California, pre gold rush trail. Did not know what it was, do now. Love this web site. Found a 1861s seated dime several hundred feet a way. Thank you
