I found one just like it last week at the site I found the 8 reales.
That site had people on it for atleast a 100 years.
I'm guessing an early 1900's button.

I think you're right on the age. Would fit well with location I found mine.

So it is a button?

Didn't even notice the patent date 1974. I do think the ID is correct being a denim button. Actually there was a stronghold denim brand. According to this link 'the stronghold' was founded in Los Angeles in 1895 and remained in business until it's closure in 1949. Revived in 2004.
