No clue here either, but if there's an old street uncovered to be repaired and resurfaced, you shouldn't be wasting any time wondering about stuff like that. Get back at it and focus on the flat and round, before it's all covered up again.

Your right, tamrock I was hoping it was a old gun I appreciate your response , I hit the street again . The metal was brass iron

Well.... When I first saw it I had the thought that it looked like part of an old flare gun.... I'd like to see it all cleaned up.... no markings anywhere?

Ya planning to hunt that street till they pave it , items that I found so far range from war of 1812 mexican button to 1920s merc dimes , it's been fun hunting this stree

Maybe some sort of Hand Planer for woodworking?? It has the shape if you turn it upside down.
