Found in a stream that runs between a late 1700’s site and a early 1900’s site.

stoneware butter churn? wild shot in the dark there, but the action they describe and plunger reminds me of butter churn

also i just looked up butterine and its an imitation butter made with animal fat. so I am going with a churn of some sort.
