OK, but yes. While making a photo of the Potin coin, I noticed what I thought was a lead seal that looked a bit like the Potin, you know with straight side pieces, and had some letters on it, but it was a pure white color, looks like a sort of white coating on it. But it is NOT lead and the white stuff is NOT lead oxide, its some sort of patina, only pure white. It has a M on one side and a T on the other. The M reminds me very much of a number of Byzantine coins that I found in Serbia.

It is also not a lead seal, the whole object is closed and hard. I COULD have found it at the same time that I found the Potin, or in that area....

Specs:
Unkown Object
size 26mm / 22mm
color pure white (coating?)
mass 11.58gram

Ideas?

Where did you find it? That will help trying to ID it.

I found it in the same area that I found a the Celtic potin (elsewhere on this forum). There were roman finds there also.

Its a Lead token. Very difficult to date but this one would be about 1800s

Well thanks, yes it could be that, some of those look close. Just surprized about lead having such a good oxide patina, never seen that before.....
Very old musket balls that I found in Ireland from the Battle of Knocknanus in 1621 also were completely white like your find. I guess lead does that after almost 4 centuries!

OK thanks. This token's patina is very hard though, I though most lead oxide is very soft, easy to scratch away.

You know on second thought looking at the thing again, I sort of see something like someone took something and wrapped it in thin lead, and sort of sealed it. Just look at the bends and such. Could there be a gold coin inside?

I don't know, I've never seen lead hammered thin into a foil before. ???

I have many different types. It depends on the lead to alloy mix.
