Strange viewer type object ?toy

Hi all at Tnet did a long hunt yesterday on a recently harvested field and found this object

The back as a white packing ?lead and the little dark spot is the holding pin showing through

had me baffled as to what its purpose was then i looked through the glass ball with the light shining also onto the glass ball and i can just make out an image of a boy/man wearing a robe and a hat in black on white background amongst other things that my pooir vision cant make out in a very old drawing fashion if you understrand what i mean, any help or info appreciated thankyou guys.

is the handle just that a straight handle? my mom has an antique silver charme bracelet and it has a tiny cathedral on it its handle is a tiny round link that dangles it from the bracelet ,when you hold it to the light you can read the lords prayer. yours could possibley be of an important person or just a novelty item. and interesting find! why the union jack? are you english? I am from bradford in yorkshire.

I believe what you found might be a "Stanhope Viewer." Some were made from a Civil War era lead mini-balls / bullets ...

Could it possibly be an old cracker jack toy? I have seen that before on this website-I think.

Could be a glass bubble photograph magnifier/viewer. Put a drop of cooking oil on the bubble to help clear up the view of what's inside.

Also, is the stem hollow?

afraid its just blurry on the webcam will keep tryin though, i think its hollow but the bottom has a white powdery substance on it not sure if thats from the ground or if its supposed to be there?

If it looks like gunk, I'd be temped to remove it as it might reveal a whole new portion of the lens. That pin hole is off-center and just doesn't look right!
