Strange two piece button today

So prior to digging to China for a metal stake (previous thread), I found this two piece button. I totally realize that not everything found where civil war artifacts have been dug means that it was from the civil war.

Anyway here is what it looks like on the front. It appears to have a design on it at some point.

Since the two parts are separated you can see what appears to be stars pressed from the rear.

Here's the weird part. Look at the fastener.

I found a similar button in the same area last week with the same fastener on the rear. The first one I found crumbled in my hands when I tried to clean it. Here it is pictured to the right of the button I found today.

What do you guys think? Did they have cuff links way back then? lol (I think they might be too big for that.

I did a search based off the stars I can see from the back and found this. Most likely not the same thing.

Or maybe more likely this? The rear seems to be the same as well.

I agree with the WWII era Army button. these are most notable for being on the HBT (HerringBone Twill) work clothes.

It almost looks like the other button my be a WWII USMC denim button (bottom right) except my button has straight grooves.
