OK, first off my apologies, no picture to go with this post. A man I work with showed me a ring that was his grandfathers the other day and asked if i could possibly do some research on it, and I have yielded zilch :/ SO yea long story short, medium size mens ring, 10k, very worn, no markers for the maker. On the face of the ring is symbol, an upside down triangle with a right side up triangle over top of it. Similar to a star of david, but you cannot see the upside down triangle through the other. On the points of the lower triangle are the letters S-H-S starting on the upper left side and going clockwise, each point with one letter. On the upper triangle is a skull and crossbones on top and the word "Philo" under the skull. Now, I have done some searching and have found nothing, anyone have any clue on what this symbol is for???!?!???

I'm thinking it's a class ring.

Is the S-H-S dashed like that?  Is it S. H. S. ?  Because that could stand for S___ High School.

Philo can be short for Philosophy.

Skull & Crossbones for a club or frat?

Star of David of course... Jewish.

From this source: http://209.85.141.104/search?q=cach...ilo+skull+crossbones&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=4&gl=us

"Kingston's one synagogue is the United Congregation of Israelites. The cemetery has 300 Jewish graves back to the 1500s. Some 50 bear the skull and crossbones."

It may also be connected with Psuedo-PHILO. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pseudo-Philo

Pseudo-Philo is the name commonly used for a Jewish pseudepigraphical work in Latin, so called because it was transmitted along with Latin translations of the works of Philo of Alexandria but is very obviously not written by Philo. Its more proper Latin title is Liber Antiquitatum Biblicarum, a title generally rendered in English as the Book of Biblical Antiquities.

Well like I said, i don't have a picture, but i whipped something up really fast on paint Undecided I know i'm not an artist by anymeans but honestly, its the best I can do HAHA thanks for all the info. I have thought of the school ring idea, something to do with the jewish community, and Philo being something to do with philosophy. My main thing is I wasn't sure if perhaps this went with a specific group or not. The skull and crossbones throws a clinker in there. But thank you all for your responses, especially in my pictureless dilemma!!
