This object was found on the beach- it is pretty heavy. The strange thing is that when it you shake it lightly, something inside of it can be heard moving around. It's an ugly looking stonematerial, definitely nothing I've seen before. Whatever is inside, it's a dull sound when shaken. Almost as though it's size is about the size of the space it is in. Not much wiggle room.definitely interesting piece.

How big is it ? Put a dollar bill next to it...could be a geode...?

Looks like hematite, but could be coprolite. Make sure and wash your hands after touching in case.

Coprolite was my first thought.

I have a piece of hematite. I do not think it's a stone at all... it smells like clay. It's s strange way to form if it is clay. But definitely hear something it it. I also found s smaller oblong piece, cracked it open and out came s bunch of gray watery clay.

That is pretty wild! Could it be an odd form of fulgurite? Did you see any other strange broken glass like material in the same area? Fulgurite is petrified sand or silica rich soils.

What java said: ambergris.

It's extremely rare and valuable and sells for thousands of dollars depending on the age (fossilized or not)

Man, you found my walnut, I dropped it in the ocean a few years ago... :)

I don't know what it smells like but I know what it looks like!
