I wonder if it is a drop of silver solder. When I was a kid, my sisters and I made wax stamps out of melted solder poured on various designs and patterns.

How big is it? I'm with creskol. It looks like a homemade stamp.

Do a pencil or charcoal rubbing of it .. maybe the intricate nature of the carvings will be more obvious.

One of my friends had a stained glass shop and you would see a lot of random designs left in the solder droppings.
I once saw Mother Teresa in one. Wish I had saved it.

I tried a pencil rubbing but i dont think i did it right..Takes practice i guess..
It could be nothing but it has had me wondering all year...
The carvings were definately put in there for some reason...
It was about 7 inches deep and this is a Native American inhabited area at one time..

38 years of leading glass, looks like solder to me. If it is silver, silver solder as said. Most of the melted lead I find in the field has a pattern on the down side of whatever it came into contact with dirt small stones etc. As far as air bubbles the lead that falls and cools on my bench takes on the characteristics of the bench but if it lands on flux or water it will bubble up under the cooling lead leaving air pockets. Your lead is on the flip side of a mold most likely. After spending some time thinking about it when the lead pooled if it cools quickly or lead settles into all the nooks it can leave the same pock marks. And it also looks like it was snipped away from a mold. Maybe someone was making silver bullets. Arty

I didn't know that Native Americans had leaded glass tepee's :tongue3:

Hey Johnny, just because it was found 7 inches deep doesn't necessarily make it Native American. There are plenty of colonial coins found at that depth and deeper.

And like I said, some of the patterns found on the bottom of those solder drops can look like art...... some more so than others. Especially when a lot of flux was used.

Don't feel bad.... it was still an interesting find. Just look at all the fun you've had wondering about it. :icon_sunny:

If you still think it's Native American, have an expert look at it.

All the best,
GG~

Looks like some type of solder to me too, but any find is a cool find to me. However, the fact that you were able to discern those markings is a good thing. That's a good ability to have in treasure hunting, and I wish I was better at it.
