Found in Corpus Christi, rang in the same as a quarter. was about 7 inches down. Thought it was trash but noticed the line in the center of the object. Gave it a scratch test as you see, sure looks like silver any ideas?
True, going forward hold off on the scratch test. To me though it looks like a blob of lead solder with the line being a small chunk of solder. I can always be wrong, but in the second picture it looks like white oxidation in a couple of spots.
I would drop a piece of siver on something hard that is the same size. And then drop your piece to see if they make the same sound. Lots of old merchant tokens were aluminum. It looks like some of the beat up ones I find. Aluminum sounds much duller
There is a lot of buildup on it. I'm not running to the spot to look, but tell us about where in Corpus? North Beach? Indian Point? The harbor? The pass tp the gulf (Packary Channel)? Toward Port A? Out toward Malaquite? My guess is that it is a silver coin, found near the beach somewhere. It may well be spanish. It will take time to clean it right, then you'll know. Suspect it may be a newer silver coin, but cleaning will tell and where you found it will tell also. Lots of treasure down that way. Hunted Padre(when you could) from the late 50's on. lots of coins, not many along the inner bays in Corpus...Cool find either way. Lots of old memories...
Was found around a site with known native American history rumor has it there was a Indian burial site nearby and as far as devaluing it ya it was a mess up but I was thinking for sure it was melted aluminum luckily I keep all my finds will have it tested today or tomorrow
