Maybe someone can help me identify this rock I found. I was detecting in the Southern Ca high desert near Randsburg. It gave me a really hard signal. I thought maybe it was a "hotrock" but it is NOT magnetic. I ground a portion of it off and it is silver/black metallic in color (shiny spot in the picture). Could it be Silver?? Nickle?? Platinum??Meteorite?? Any help appreciated!!
Thanks

six shooter, It sure looks like a meteorite,
but most of them stick to a magnet, maybe someone local could test it for you, good luck,

I'd say Magnetite or hematite.
I don't think it's Silver,Platinum,Meteorite or Nickle
NOt the right colors, Meteorites have rounder form nothing sharp (almost nothing)

Is the christaline formation in the center a metalic one? If it is it could be a Galena chrystal which would explain the hit you got.
Galena is a lead mineral that can be as much as 65% pure.
