Fossilised tooth was my first impression too but the fading of the pattern baffled me.

Sure doesn't look like the normal sedimentary matrix you'd find most fossil in. I can't think of what that is other then the tooth suggestion seems like a good one.

The inside of the marks look vitrified or like fused rock. Please check the picture carefully and you will notice the same.
