Check out the 2:59 mark on the find for his video, looks similar to his piece but not sure. Good old Hoover Boys, love their stuff :D

I'm not sure it's an actual number, I could be wrong. My first guess is a broken piece to a sword hand guard.

Try a magnet and let us know brass or not...??? pretty small and 'does look like the top of a 2'...but...???

I can see now that isn't a 2 .. just part of a scroll.

I also agree it's part of a scroll. Looks about the right thickness for a sword hand guard.

Would a sword guard be so crude on the back side? It seems crude enough (on the back) to from something that it wouldn’t be seen, just for example maybe from a base like on this candlestick:
