Strange Metalic Purple Rock

I have taken this metallic like rock to several jewelers. No one has any idea what it is so far. It is deff. not coal it is very hard, and has a purple hue to it I found it in a stream in Northern Connecticut. wierd rock.jpg
If someone with a knowledge of rocks or minerals can help me identify I appreciate it
 

Thank you, possible but it's hard to show with this pic it looks different from any obsidian I've seen

Have you put a magnet to it.

Hardness, Streak, and density you need to know to narrow it down.

"Metallic like" you say, does it make a noise on a metal detector ?

Unsure here, but it has a strong resemblance of a piece of anthracite coal imo. Another thought would be gilsonite. :dontknow:

I have never had anyone id it, the closet I came was to some radiation type rock, fortunately is not
