Strange medical device?

Found this out in the ''shed'' . It's about 8 inches long . Looks like the handles have bone or ivory on them . The pointed blade is razor sharp and there's a curved needle on the other side . When you push and pull on the ring shaped handle the blade works like a mini guillotine - the needle moves with it . The other handle folds out at 90 degrees . I cannot find any words or makers marks on it .
Any ideas??

Not a farm boy, so take this with a grain - kenb's post of circumcision tool may be close - could this be something to "fix" animals? I'm thinking of hogs in particular. If I see ya walking toward me with that - I'm outa here!

I believe that it is a tonsilotome, or tonsillectomy guillotine. Note the similarities to these two: loops, needles, etc.

Making my throat hurt too, even tho I had my tonsils removed when I was about 7 years old. I don't remember nothing like that device cause I was out from ether.

I do remember my dad telling me of having his removed and he was wide awake, I asked him what did the doctor do with his tonsils and he told me he used them for fish bait.

No wonder my throat hurt so much when they took them out. Good thing it wasn't for a circ it would cut the little thing right clean off.

Jeez! Ether... I can remember the nauseating smell even now... I was five and that was 45 years ago!!! I spent DAYS with a throat too sore to even swallow spit - and I swear there was a boy in the next bed in the ward who had his tonsils out the same day as I - and he was eating Cornflakes!!!! The thought makes me shudder even now!
