I have a 1975 lincoln cent with a strange engraved mark on it. It is slightly smaller than lincolns head. It is to the right of it and above the date. It is kindof a square with rounded edges and the top is slightly less wide than the bottom. The design inside the square is kindof hard to describe. It kindof looks like two triangles facing away from each other. The bottom inside corners of the triangles are rounded. Do ya'all think it was minted that way or did someone else make a design that they were engraving in pennies?

Sorry, no pics, my scanner broke.

Hello Ringding,

It sounds like a coin that was imprinted with a symbol AFTER having been struck for circulation. In other words, the symbol/s were probably put there after the coin had left the mint. When I first read what you had stated about it, I thought of those novelty coins from the 60's & 70's where imprints were put onto Lincoln cents - like a pipe in Lincoln's mouth, and an image of Kennedy facing Lincoln, etc.

I've actually seen a lot of coins like this. Some were stamped on and others were engraved into the coin. In terms of value, they are generally not worth much. But it is interesting to have coins such as this to show and tell people about: as a conversation piece. Some people actually do collect these too. But as I say, they generally are not worth much. Regards,

I have one of those with the Masonic emblem stamped or engraved on it. The symbol is highlighted with white paint as well.
