I found this ball in a 100 y/o logging camp...personal items were found near by. The ball is about 2.5" round with flat facets cut all around it. It might also have some red paint still attached? I thought perhaps it was a sharpening stone, but I have yet to find one of this style. (why would you have a round sharpening stone)? Also the material looks like hard clay and not of a consistant grit. Thank you.

Does not look like a musket ball, but looks like an stone ball that are polished with something?

Looks like it could be an old Lacrosse ball, or something of that sort. :dontknow:

Looks like the kind of material and glaze that a lot of old clay marbles had on them. 2.5 inches is bigger than most of the clay shooters I've seen though but they may have made them that big.

Hey Cheese, I think you got it! I failed to photograph the ball with an item to show scale, and I had to guess at the size because I forgot to bring it with me when I downloaded the pics on here...the ball is 1.5" and looks just like other red painted clay marbles I have just found in research. some even have cuts on them...could these cuts have happened from grinding on rocks as it worked its way down hill for the last 100 years? Cool, thanks for the reply
