strange lava stones?

I`m located in Scotland, recently I found a lot of volcanic glass, outside the Edinburgh area,
(there was use to volcano there)
was wondering are these stones are some kind of volcanic glass or just melted something..

I beieve this would fall intot he class of common mill slag are you near a factory?. or was a glass china factory near or has dumped their slag into the ocean.. Your very close on the colors.. However, if the color is blueish/greenish.. It's been man made.. While the color your looking for (obsidian) is all black or blackish/brown and looks almost like glass, unless it to has been in contact with the ocean for very long thus becoming pitted and faded etc.
