Strange Key-Looking Thing. Any Ideas??

Found this at an 1801 house. I have no idea what it could be....Any thoughts? It's 3 1/2 inches long.

I realized today...

The thing the red arrow points to actually screws in/out of a little hole

THe part the blue arrow is pointing to is hollow/may be threaded.

I've never seen anything like it, but I think skeeterd might be on the right track. The belled end look like it's used on a check valve.
