Guy at 7/11 had this in his tray today. Looks like someone punched the dates 1960 and 1985 into it. It also appears dipped because it's extremely shiny and the edge looks silver.

Ever seen anything like this?

the guys on the C.R.H. section know i forget what they called em but it was a after market deal with a coin company like littleton I.E. gold plated coins and such

I can't seem to find anything about it anywhere. I give up =)

I looks to me like you found a silver proof! Congrats! for more info join me in the Coin roll hunting section!

Its called Counterpunched. You find these from time to time, more of a novelty item made by third party's as a marketing ploy to sell coins. There are others that do it for a hobby and will counterpunch different things on coins for fun. Is the half a S mint mark? If so its a proof.

Definitely NOT a silver proof. A plated coin that has been counterstamped by some aftermarket company. Value? 50 cents!

It's not from the San Francisco mint. Besides, I thought that between 1971 and 1992/94 even the proof coins were no longer silver. I could be wrong though. The coin is a 1984 P. I appears to have been plated because there are traces of what looks like gold plate. I'm just going to spend it most likely.

I found one last week that is basically the same except it isn't plated.

It is a 1983 P and has 1960 - 1980 counterstamped in the same place yours does.

Not a proof...just someone with a novelty gimmick.
