It appears to be stamped & soldier filled. I'm guessing they were mass produced and engraved when sold. If that's the case it seems I would of seen 1 before. Has anyone else seen 1 made like this before?

I have never seen anything like this either. But the tarnish on the back makes it look like silver. Is that a "2" stamped/engraved on the lower right of the back side?

It appears to be a relatively early coin silver signet ring. The giveaway to the age is the engraving. It appears to be roughly 1830-1860ish.

Now I'm going to branch into a little macabre speculation.

I'm going to suggest that your ring isn't broken... it looks cut to me. Perhaps cut from a bloated finger on a battlefield looting spree days after the fact. The age of the ring is right... and the geographic location is probably also right.

Interesting find.

Thanks for for the input folks. If it belonged to T H Pigeons like I think he survived the War. He was camped there 5 1/2 months.

Or he lived so the ring was cut off instead of the finger.
