strange happening

I heard a noise in the Kitchen while making a post & ignored it

was just out there making dinner & see this bulb shell on the floor



the rest was still in the light socket



I wonder if it will still work without the shell

Not sure I wanna thread it back in

That happened to me recently. It was a bulb in a recessed light in our basement. I hear this "thud", wondering what it was. I see the bulb laying on the carpet. Had to use needle-nose pliers to remove the screw thread. In my case, though, the guts were not intact. It looked like the part between the light and the screw thread just tore or gave way. Weird.

Hey jeff!! Toss it!! Becareful not to cut your hand trying to get the base out of the socket!! White Tornado nailed it with the needle-nose pliers to twist the base out!! GOOD LUCK and GOOD HUNTING!! VERDE!!

as you can see I already got it out.
I just grabbed the center structure and twisted it out.

I can buy halogen .
I get 100 watt Sylvania brand at Family Dollar

I don't see a difference between halogen & incandescent

except for the Electric Bill I hate

I read about some type of Fruit used to remove them, But I don't think it was a Banana.
I would think a Peach may work too

I did. Bought a dozen 8 packs of 60-75 watt bulbs. There are certain light fixtures where I just don't want to make a change anytime soon.

Happened to me with an outside floodlight recently. The glass sheered right off at the base, and the filament would still illuminate. Odd.

I have six floods so far that have done the same. Every one still works though! They are all about 5 years old.

MAYBE a sudden electrical power surge, creating MUCH heat to melt bulb attached to "metal base ring" (don't know the terms used)... dunno.
