a mexico silversmiths guild "marking" -- city name and his number ---this code tells in which city and by who it was made the "code" tells where it was made and who made it.-- ie its mexico made 925 (sterling silver) made in city - TV - by silversmith #14

Since about 1979 the Mexican system of ID-ing silver was initiated with a letter/number mark to ID the silversmith and guarantee sterling standard. The first letter (T) indicates location: Taxco (Others are M-Mexico City; G-Guadalajara; and C-Cuernavaca) The second letter (V) indicates the first initial of the last name of the silversmith. The number (14) indicates that he was the 14th smith, with a name beginning with V, to register a mark in the Taxco assay office.
Unfortunately, there is no complete list that matches the letters and numbers to silversmith's names and there are probably less than 15 of these identified.
