I find all kinds of different rocks at campsites.

I believe they picked up rocks to have around.

I find rocks that only come from the Big Bend area, and quite a few have been broken.

Was there a fire at the site you found it? I've found things that remind me of that around the site I dig at. They have very interesting shapes and colors but I think they are all the result of the fire. When my sister saw them she called them "poppers" and said the are the result of coal burning. :dontknow: but I also think they could be glass/ceramic items that were burned and melted.

But then again what you have might be something else - I can't tell for sure ;D

I'm taking a guess on this, based on what it looks like to me. Don't laugh, I see these all the time in the pine woods, looks like fossilized pine resin. If you scrape a little off and smell, if it smells like pine then that's what it is. ;D

I think it looks like chalcedony. I have a few pieces of it I picked up along the yrs. the pieces I have are more the color of yours although one is greenish as in the pic.

I'm not aware of Native Americans using the crystal for anything but my knowledge in that field is quite limited. The crystal was "first" discovered in the mid 1700's but Native Americans could have known of it for centuries prior. :dontknow:

Prehnite is found in underground cavities trapped in volcanic rock throughout several parts of the World including Ct. There is a large quarry operation in Ct that pretty much controls at least half the State when it comes to providing crushed stone material. Prehnite is often found in various colors and crystal structures coming from that quarry.

Did you find your piece on ground surface? Was it among or near a "graveled" area? I've probably found at a gallon jugs worth just casually walking on friend's driveways.

As mamabear suggests it also looks like chalcedony. While this part of the Country isn't known for chalcedony, it is occasionally found here also.
