Found this in a field and cant figure out what it is??

The thumb piece appears to be bent over..It was flat..

Anyone??

What age do you think it is??Lots of Colonial nails around also..

Maybe a base to a receipt spike with a paper clip.

After looking at it i thought it was for some sort of oil/gas fixture with the vent grooves around it but i must say im baffled

kinda looks like a fancy door knob hardware apparatus. push the lever and turn the knob that is not there

Could be a pen holder for the receipt spike


Looks Victorian era maybe did they have pens then??
